Starting a Blog: A Niche Site Project in the Making

Starting a Blog: A Niche Site Project in the Making

It’s been a couple of weeks since this blog went live, and there haven’t been many developments. However, that’s to be expected, considering this blog is still new. And I’m still optimistic about its future growth and success. But starting a blog is easy.

In my first post, “How to Really Make Passive Income Blogging,” I delivered some helpful pointers for anyone pursuing passive income online. Still, I did not mention why I created this blog and what my expectations were in the first place.

So in this post, I thought I’d outline my intentions, what I learned leading up to its creation, and how you can start taking action for your own online business aspirations as well.

It Started With an Idea

Basically, I’m using this blog as a way to document what I’ve learned to generate passive income online. I’ll also create niche sites from scratch as one of those methods. I aim to inspire you to create your own online business through my own experiences and examples.

Although I’m no stranger to creating blogs, I have yet to profit from any of them. They were all niche-related, but the major culprit for their failures was my lack of motivation, and my reason for not being motivated, was because I entered niche markets that I had no passion for.

Sure, I could’ve tightened up my marketing strategies, educated myself more about the niches I entered, and maybe saw a glimmer of hope – but all that was useless if I wasn’t motivated to do any of them. Furthermore, I had to work on my patience, even though I already knew success wasn’t going to happen overnight.

So what better way to stay motivated and prove that a beginner like me can make a living out of this?

By creating a site where thousands can witness my progress.

It keeps me in check, but more importantly, it serves as an example that anyone can also build their own online business from the ground up.

The Evolution of a Blog

As I mentioned earlier, I created blogs in the past, which only failed in the end. My most recent project, selfbuiltincome.com (also a blog about inspiring beginners to start an online business), was only two months old when I decided to shut it down, in favor of this one.

Granted it was still in its infancy stages (it was too early to measure how successful it could’ve been), I decided that the “self-study” approach would convey my message better – which selfbuiltincome.com was not. I believe this approach can better motivate and benefit my readers.

As a result, I conceived onlineincomeprojects.com.

Creating a blog and making money with it in 2021 is much more challenging because there are already millions (perhaps billions) out there – with hundreds more being created daily. Only a small percentage of them actually make a profit. I’ll call this elite group of blogs “the first page of Google.”

All joking aside, getting on the first page of the most popular and widely-used search engine is where you’ll find the money. Though it will be tough and more likely take some time, I want to prove to you that it can still be done – even with all the other competing sites already out there. That first page is like competing in decathlons and winning all the events. It will certainly serve as a huge, personal accomplishment for this site and my future niche site projects if I attain this feat.

You Can Tell I’m a Beginner

If you’re an intermediate or advanced blogger, and you happen to stumble upon my blog, you may already know the methods I use, thus not finding them helpful for your situation. I’m making an assumption, of course, but if I’m right, keep in mind I haven’t made a name for myself yet.

I’m still learning the process, and this blog is really geared to all the beginners out there anyway. I sometimes feel like I’m playing “catch-up” with everyone else, though, but I also know that comes with the territory.

Nonetheless, one of the other reasons for creating this blog is to showcase my journey to becoming a successful blogger and online entrepreneur. Though I’m not intentionally creating a low-quality site, and I do put a lot of time and effort into ensuring my blog and its contents are properly polished before sending it out to the public, I’m still building my brand after all, and mistakes will happen.

Building a brand is another concept that will take time, but also trust from my readers. I aim to become an authority figure someday, and I hope my readers will do the same.

Standing Out From the Crowd

It’s a little daunting to dive into the already over-saturated, “make-money-online niche,” especially when you’re a newbie like me. Authority sites like these, competing to be on that first page of Google, usually are from authors who have been doing this for quite some time, all with extensive knowledge, experience, and networking. They are the authorities within their own niche, owning sites that have matured over time and garnering their own trustworthy followers.

So how can I compete with that? How can you?

The only way I see is to separate yourself from them by providing a unique service or product. Unfortunately, there really isn’t anything “new under the sun anymore” either. If you search around the internet, you’ll find a lot of rehashed information or, worse yet, plagiarized information – which I definitely advise against!

Obviously, those who practice plagiarism will get their site severely penalized, banned forever, and may even face some time in court. Those who rehash information may find it difficult to become an authority figure since the same information is available elsewhere – and better.

Don’t let this all scare you, though, because you can still provide value to your readers just by putting a twist on existing information.

Every seasoned online entrepreneur/blogger in this business has their own take on delivering information. They do so by using the following techniques (just to name a few):

  • Personal experience
  • Writing style
  • Personality
  • Knowing a little more than the competition
  • Site structure (which we’ll expound on below)

This is effective because for anyone to properly conduct thorough research on a particular subject (especially if it’s something that can solve their problems), using one source is not enough – unless that source resulted from extensively researching other multiple sources.

But by using the above techniques (and others), there is always room to set yourself apart from everyone else. Not everyone will have your experience, writing style, personality, etc. Never doubt your abilities. Take this for example:

When I first entered the make-money-online niche in 2009, I never went far because I thought there was no room in that market anymore. Fast forward a few years, and I discovered some of the most successful bloggers of today, started in that same time frame (and even later), and with the same niche, I entered all those years ago. Had I found a way and stayed the course, I would’ve been a successful online entrepreneur (or close to it), just like them. You bet I was kicking myself after that revelation. But alas, I learned from my mistake.

The point is when there’s a will, there’s a way, and time is of the essence. So don’t waste it. If you made a mistake, learn from it and move on. Stuff we already heard before, yes?

Site Structure

Another integral part of standing out from the competition involves the “look and feel” of your blog. Although I’m not a web designer, internet technology has evolved so much over the years that I can create a  blog without learning any code – and so can you!

Of course, if you truly want to have a unique blog, you will need to learn HTML and CSS (by doing so, the sky’s the limit) or hire a web designer. But there are premium themes and frameworks available that can set you apart from the competition also. Though you may have to invest some mullah, it’s still well worth it, considering what you’ll be getting in return.

Aside from the look and feel, you also want to ensure there’s an underlying theme to your blog.

As mentioned earlier, the theme of this blog is a “self-study” to inspire those wishing to make money online. I chose to use myself as a “guinea pig” for anything that involves learning how to become a successful online entrepreneur.

One learning method is to build a new niche site from scratch and document its growth with progress reports every week. Additionally, I’ll include articles that involve psychological and emotional motivators and “hidden gems” in creating an online business (like a behind-the-scenes look, if you will).

By doing this alone, I’ve already set myself apart from the competition. You can bet the results from my findings will be different, and right now, there still aren’t that many “self-study” sites out there. Being accountable is not always easy to expose, especially to the world. Nevertheless, all you have to do is emulate my examples, use my case studies as a template so that you can start building your own unique online business.

I also decided to use Elegant Themes’ Divi Builder and Child Themes as my look and feel of choice. I added some custom layout structures to make it uniquely mine, but I don’t have to enter a lot of code to create it – thanks to this framework, premium theme, and my research on how to do them.

I could learn how to code if I wanted to take it to another level, though (which will happen as I learn more in the future), but right now, I’m happy with the final product.

Content Delivery

1. Timing and Frequency

It’s always going to be quality over quantity for me. Since this site is new (at the time of this writing), I’m not sure when and how often I’ll be posting articles (aside from the weekly progress reports from my Projects). After all, it’s always good practice to post regularly and on time. But I also want to ensure that I’m always delivering quality, well-researched, and informative posts. If I feel forced to create content because of a deadline, the result may reflect negatively. You can’t rush creativity any more than an artist shouldn’t rush creating a work-of-art.

Since the information from this site is motivated by the progress reports of my future niche projects and the feedback/interaction from my readers, only time will tell how the overall momentum will come about from delivering content.

Make no mistake, I would love to have a set day and time to post my articles, but realistically, I can’t guarantee anything. I might as well be honest with you about that right now. The best way to anticipate anything new on this site is to subscribe to my email list below.

Of course, this is completely up to you. But by subscribing, navigating the blog becomes more efficient. You’ll visit the blog for content you’re only interested in reading – since I’ll be updating you on anything new via email.

2. Post Size

Speaking earlier of quality over quantity, there’s no “rule of thumb” on the number of words I intend to write. Although, it has been proven that Google favors longer content. But as long as the information I convey is useful and beneficial to my readers, I won’t focus on length. It would be nice to submit a lengthy and informative post, but I would rather submit a short one that is helpful rather than a long one filled with rambling and fluff that doesn’t provide value. Don’t you agree?

Make Money Online Now!

At the bottom of this post (and every post thereafter), I’ll ask you if you want to subscribe to my email list. When you do so, not only will you receive regular site updates (as mentioned above), but you’ll also receive a copy of my guide to making money online fast for free! Oh yes, contrary to what you’ve heard or read, it is possible to make money online fast!

I could easily sell this guide (due to the time, effort, and information I put into it) and make good money – but I’m giving it to you as an incentive for signing up instead. Don’t worry, I promise never to sell your information to any third parties – after all, you’re my readers, and I work tirelessly to gain your trust – and only email you important and exclusive information that will help your online business.

But if for any reason you do decide to unsubscribe, then keep the guide as a gift anyway. This method of collecting email addresses is nothing new, but you can’t lose for subscribing also.

Final Thoughts

The other reason for giving away the guide is for you to take action and create your own success story now. That way, you can fully immerse yourself in this journey with me and start living the internet lifestyle. Although only a small percentage of bloggers/online entrepreneurs found success online, that doesn’t mean we can’t be a part of that group either.

I want to thank you for visiting my site, and I hope you stay long enough to see this blog (and my future projects) mature within the niches I experiment on. More importantly, I hope you find inspiration through my examples and take action for yourself.

Remember, you can have all the information and tools in the world to be successful, but they won’t mean squat if you don’t apply any of them. Motivate yourself and take action. That’s your best move.
